How does JavaScript integrate with existing backend systems and technologies?

Because JavaScript can use any communication protocol available, there are plenty of ways to integrate with backend systems.

The most popular and default choice is the JSON Rest API. If the backend systems expose a RESTful API, JavaScript can call them through AJAX, the Fetch API or libraries like Axios. However, you can also use other formats like XML, binary, GraphQL, WebSocket and WebRTC through various libraries.
