Can JavaScript be used for building RESTful APIs and microservices?

Yes. Common JavaScript frameworks and libraries are Express for handling requests, PassportJS for authentication and authorisation, and Sequelize or Knex.js for accessing a database.

Node.js is another fairly lightweight library that is perfect for writing microservices thanks to its asynchronous event-driven architecture. Deno and other JavaScript server runtimes are becoming an increasingly popular choice.

Finally, we’ve noticed a shift towards server-side rendering (SSR) instead of the classic SPA + API stack. At the moment, Remix and Next.js seem to be the most popular frameworks for this choice.
